Training

IH Riga-Satva offers high quality in-house teacher training for all our English and Modern Languages teachers. We also offer International House World Organisation courses and specialist training seminars for locally-based teachers.

IH Certificate in Teaching Young Learners and Teenagers

Price: 400 EUR 

Who is it for?

  • Qualified teachers with no prior experience of teaching young learners

  • Qualified teachers who have already taught young learners but would like specific training

Aims

To prepare teachers for the specific challenges of working with young learners and teenagers, through a blend of online learning and face-to-face assessed teaching practise.

Content

50 hours, to include 30 hours of input sessions, 3 hours of teaching practice, lesson planning, tutorials, 2 written assignments, homework and observation tasks. Sessions cover areas such as: Child Development, Clarifying and Practising Language, L1 in the classroom, Teaching Very Young Learners, Teaching Adolescents, Material Design and Selection. Course length varies according to the Teacher Training Centre.

Structure & Assessment

Two written assignments: one on teaching materials, plus a self-reflection task. Four teaching practice sessions with two different age groups, observed by a tutor with YL experience in an IH school. The course is taught by qualified, experienced YL English teachers. The final portfolio is moderated by the IH Assessment Unit.

IH Certificate in Teaching Very Young Learners (6+)

Who is it for?

  • Qualified and Experienced language teachers that are interested in teaching very young learners

  • Qualified and Experienced language teachers who have already taught young learners but would like specific training

Note participants minimum level of English should be C1 level.

Aims

To prepare teachers for the specific challenges of working with very young learners (6 and below) through a series of online course modules.

Content

10 online sessions covering teaching methodology, child psychology, classroom management and health and safety

Structure & Assessment

The course is run entirely online by qualified tutors.  Tutors are qualified both in the area if very young learner teaching and tutoring in the online environment. Assessment is based on an end of course portfolio. The portfolio is made up of tasks completed over the duration of the course and a final reflective essay.

Candidate portfolios are assessed by the IH World Assessment Unit at the end of the course. The grading of the course is Pass or Fail.
