Teaching Knowledge Test Course
TKT at International House Riga
International House Riga can offer you a special course preparing for the TKT exam.
This course will run subject to demand and can be adapted to your needs.
There are two options for the course:
Extensive: One or two face-to-face meetings per week.
Intensive: One week, 40 hours.
What is TKT?
The TKT is a test designed for teachers of English to speakers of other languages and focuses on the knowledge needed by all teachers of English.
Why take the TKT exam?
The course and the exam are designed to increase teachers' confidence and improve their chances of employment and promotion. It will enhance teachers' understanding of different methodologies, lesson planning, how resources can be used, classroom management as well as the terms and expressions that are used during teaching and when we talk about teaching.
Who would benefit from taking the TKT?
TKT is suitable for English teachers of all ages and for recently qualified and inexperienced teachers. It is also useful for teachers who want to refresh their knowledge of methodology.
TKT has three core module:
Module 1 — Language and background to language learning and teaching:
- describing language and language skills
- background to language learning
- background to language teaching.
Module 2 — Planning lessons and use of resources for language teaching:
- planning and preparing a lesson or sequence of lessons
- selection and use of resources and materials.
Module 3 — Managing the teaching and learning process:
- teachers' and learners' language in the classroom
- classroom management.
There are two optional modules.
TKT: Content and Language Integrated Learning tests a candidate’s knowledge of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and the practice of planning, teaching and assessing curriculum subjects taught in English.
TKT: Knowledge About Language tests a candidate’s knowledge of the language systems needed by teachers for planning and teaching their lessons.
